I humbly seek re-election with your support to the Town Council. During my first term, Kerry McKay and I ensured a ZERO property tax increase 2 years in a row. I am proud to have set a new destiny into motion for 4 of our historic buildings – Wickford El, The Annex, The Old Town Hall and The Meeting House. I believe that we have honored historic preservation while exercising common sense and respect to taxpayers. I also supported the change from a 3 to a 4 platoon system for our Fire Department. This change has increased public safety and quality of life for our first responders.
The most pressing issues in the upcoming term will be leading our town out of a “state of emergency” and back into “normal operations.” We need proven leaders with a backbone, courage and willingness to lead by example. I believe community support for our youth, disabled and seniors is critical. Until we are fully operational again, our youth of all ages, particularly our high school students will require mentors and community advocates to keep them engaged and focused given the uncertainty of in-person learning and cancellation of extracurricular activities. Our seniors and disabled residents continue to need community volunteers to assist in companionship, meal delivery, grocery and pharmacy runs, transportation to MD visits, etc. These 3 groups always need support from the community – but more now than in previous years.
I serve as the Town Council Liaison to: The Information Technology Advisory Board, The Economic Development Advisory Board and the NK Arts Council.
Locally, I am a loyal supporter of: The NK Food Pantry, The Wickford Art Association, HistWick, NKHS Booster Club, RI Blood Center, and animal welfare causes – particularly German Shepherd Rescue.
I am a member of the NK Chamber of Commerce and the RI Estate Planning Council and the NK Republican Town Committee.
